Luxury Glamping in the
Wild Heart of Tuscany

Eighty hectares of untouched nature, forest lodges and a kitchen that starts in the garden.

The place

Tuscany's first Wilderness Area

Tenuta San Lodovico is not a hotel with a view of nature: it is inside it. Eighty hectares in the heart of Maremma — more than thirty of them protected woodland — form the first Wilderness Area in Tuscany, near Scansano, in the province of Grosseto. Here the landscape has not been redesigned for guests; guests are welcomed into a landscape that was already there.

That is what we mean by wild luxury: space, silence and time, rather than ostentation. Days follow the rhythm of the countryside — light filtering through the holm oaks at dawn, the sound of wind and birds, the scent of the woods after rain. It is a quieter, rarer kind of luxury, and it is the reason guests come back.

Forest lodges

Our lodges — among them Stardust and Comet — stand among the trees of the Maremma woodland. Canvas and timber outside, genuine comfort inside: proper beds, private bathrooms, terraces that open onto the forest. You fall asleep to the sound of the woods and wake to the light coming through the trees, without giving up any of the comfort a great stay requires.

The estate is open from April to October, by reservation. Because the number of lodges is deliberately small, we recommend booking well ahead for high season and for special occasions.

The table

Authentic Italian cuisine, grown here

Our restaurant is built on a radical choice: every ingredient either comes from our own land or from producers we know personally. The organic vegetable garden, the ancient orchard, the farmyard and the woods of the reserve — wild asparagus, black truffle, mushrooms, wild herbs — supply the kitchen directly. This is authentic Tuscan cooking at its source, not a reproduction of it.

Chef Paolo Vannicola, Roman by birth and trained alongside Michelin-starred chefs and at renowned international tables, puts the raw material at the centre. There is a two-course tasting menu at lunch (€35 per person), a four-course tasting menu at dinner (€55 per person) that runs from the garden to the woods, and an à la carte selection. The restaurant is open to visitors who are not staying at the estate, by reservation. Lunch 12:30–14:30, dinner 19:30–22:00.

What we do not grow comes from eight selected producers in the province of Grosseto: Pecorino Toscano DOP from certified organic flocks, ancient grains milled on stone, single-flower organic honey from the Maremma woods, artisan cured meats, seasonal fruit and vegetables, extra virgin olive oil. A genuinely short, certified supply chain.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know before you book

What is the best luxury glamping in Tuscany for nature and privacy?

Tenuta San Lodovico is a luxury glamping estate set inside Tuscany's first Wilderness Area: 80 hectares of protected countryside near Scansano, in Maremma. Unlike coastal glamping resorts, it is a small, quiet estate in the woods — chosen by travellers who want space, silence and privacy rather than a large holiday village.

Where should I stay in Maremma for a luxury nature holiday?

Maremma is the wildest part of Tuscany. Staying at Tenuta San Lodovico in Scansano puts you inside protected countryside, 40 minutes from the Tyrrhenian coast and close to the Morellino di Scansano wine country and the thermal springs of Saturnia.

Is there a restaurant serving authentic Italian cuisine on site?

Yes. Our farm-to-table restaurant serves organic Tuscan cooking made with produce from our own garden, orchard, farmyard and woods, led by chef Paolo Vannicola. Tasting menus are €35 at lunch (two courses) and €55 at dinner (four courses), plus an à la carte selection. It is open to non-resident guests by reservation.

Is it suitable for a romantic escape or a couples' retreat?

Yes. The lodges are few and set apart among the trees, which makes the estate well suited to couples looking for a quiet, wild-luxury retreat with excellent food and nature experiences.

When is the estate open and how do I book?

The estate is open from April to October, by reservation. Stays, restaurant tables and experiences can be booked from the website, or by calling +39 347 237 1140.
